EIDUL-ADHA SACRIFICE AND THE OUT-BREAK OF ANTHRAX DISEASE
AT THE FINAL MEETING, THAT LASTED FOR THREE DAYS, THE LEADERSHIP OF THE MUSLIM UMMAH IN ASHANTIlll THAT COMPRISES OF THE ASHANTI REGIONAL CHIEF IMAM, DEPUTY NATIONAL IMAM OF AHLUL SUNNA WAL-JAMMA, THE SHIA, OTHERS IMAMS AND CHIEFS ADOPTED TO THE FOLLOWING RESOLUTIONS AS REGARDS TO THE 2023 EDUL-ADHA ANIMAL SACRIFICE.
It is unanimously agreed that, upon consultation with Kumasi Metro Veterinary Officers, and the findings by the committee, the Eidul-Adha Sacrifice shall be observed by the Muslim Communities in the Ashanti Region.
However, the following are recommendations and cautions to be duly observed by all, to guarantee the safety on the health of the Muslim Ummah, Before, During and After the animal sacrifice;
It is recommended by the committee that, all households within a community should arrange all animals expected to be sacrificed at one place and seek the help of Veterinary officer to inspect them before and after the sacrifices.
It is also recommended that, animals intended for sacrifice should be bought and kept at home for at least three days before Eidul-Adha, so as to be able to detect any symptoms of an infected animal.
Animals meant for the sacrifice should be fed with salt-diluted-water before the slaughter.
P.P.E (Personal Protection Equipment) such as nose masks, hand gloves are encouraged to be used by all those who will slaughter animals during this Occasion.
Parents and Guardians should ensure that children stand at a reasonable distance away from the slaughter point.
Anyone who has an unhealed wound on the hand should distance himself from slaughtering, or cover the wound completely before slaughtering.
SYMPTOMS OF THE ANTHRAX DISEASE ON ANIMALS
1. Running Nose with red colored eye.
2. Non-activeness (Dull)
3. Mixture of Blood in animal defecation.
4. Blood does not cloth after slaughter
In this case it is recommended that, dissecting should not take place at all, but rather, an officer from veterinary must inspect thoroughly and advice.
1. Temperature of animals rises.
2. A sudden falling of animal, and blood oozes out of ears and nose.
3. Clot of blood spotted at the chin of animal.
4. Meat of a suspected affected animal becomes loose.
It is therefore recommended to allow animal to cool down after slaughter before Moulting is done.
Most importantly, meat should be well heated and cooked before consumption.
