James Gyakye Quayson sworn-in as Assin North MP

James Gyakye Quayson has been sworn in as the representative for the Central Region’s Assin North seat.

On Tuesday morning, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, administered the oaths of allegiance and membership.

After the Supreme Court declared the 2020 Assin North Parliamentary election invalid on the grounds that Quayson was unable to run since he was a dual citizen at the time he submitted his petition, Quayson won a by-election last week.

On Tuesday, June 27, 2023, he won the by-election against Charles Opoku of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), his major rival, to reclaim his seat.

Charles Opoku received 42.15 percent of the vote to his 17,245 (57.56%) votes.

White was the color of choice for minority parliamentarians as a triumph symbol.

The National Democratic Congress (NDC), led by former president John Dramani Mahama, had a sizable representation in parliament.
