NDC CR Chairman Heaps Praises on Minority Caucus In Parliament For Standing by James Gyakye Quayson in his Trial
The Central Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Professor Richard Asiedu, has heaped praises thus lauding the minority caucus in parliament for their decision to boycott parliament and sit in solidarity with Hon James Gyakye Quayson the MP for Assin North who is standing trial.
Mr Quayson was charged with perjury and forgery which the state Attorney has puffed to be hearing the case on daily basis commencing Friday, the 14th of July, 2023.
In an exclusive interview on Happy FM’s EpaHoaDaben Show with Kwadwo Sefah-Danquah yesterday, Prof. Asiedu disclosed that as the state Attorney has proceeded on the trajectory to keep the Assin North MP in court on a daily basis even as lawyers, the clergy and other distinguished citizens have questioned the urgency and rational behind such move by the court is utterly something which inimical to the justice system in the country.
Prof. Asiedu wades into the criminal controversy case of some individuals in the country and querried why delicate cases like Sexy Don Don the guy who gruesomely murdered JB Danquah Adu and the case of NAM 1 and his ponzy scheme, who he defrauded many Ghanaians thus deprived them of their livelihood, adding that the serious crime of NAM 1 has not been given such treatment but rather a member of parliament who has been subjected to such a traumatic expulsion from the legislative chamber and having been made to go through a tedium By-election should be treated this manner.
The NDC Minority Caucus, immediately after the swearing-in of Assin North Member (MP) Mr .James Gyakye Quayson, announced its decision to boycott parliamentary proceedings each time he appeared before court on his criminal charges.
Prof.Asiedu opined that it’s such a tremendous display of comradeship for the minority to stand by James Gyakye Quayson, noting that it is the government that is seeking to grind it’s own business to a halt parliamentary businesses because the minority boycotting the house cannot have a quorum to approve and ratify the business of the Parliament for the betterment of the country.
Pro.Asiedu assured the minority caucus of the backing of the rank and file of the party, stressing that he would always be with them in court on a daily basis until the case ran its course.
Meanwhile, Speaker Alban Bagbin has asked the Minority Caucus to present a written, not oral, permission before being recognized as absent with permission on days they go to court to solidarize with their colleague standing trial.
